I wasn’t aware, or least hadn’t noticed that CAT makes on highway trucks. Were others aware of this? Was I in a coma?

They are mean looking trucks. I see them every once in a while here in southern MN. I like the look of them, they always catch my eye.

This is news to me as well. I knew there were a lot of cat engines underhood, but have never seen a Cat branded rig.
Can match your truck, hat, pants, boots, cell phone, garden equipment. Like a big Ferrari, or a les s green John Deere.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen one.

I saw this one this morning.
As somewhat of a truck buff and due to my profession, I always scrutinize trucks on the highway.

They’re exceedingly rare in my area (I see more vintage COEs than CAT trucks) but they do seem to exist. They look pretty handsome!

I think Navistar builds them for Cat, with Cat engines.

They also make fluid ends for positive displacement frac pumps.

News to me as well - they are good-looking trucks though.

I did not. The last trucks to confuse me were Sterling.

Yup, there a few around here, mostly dum
p trucks!

Even the in the real photo, the grill looks like a photoshop job

I heard these were trial units or something that we got for free, and back in early 2015 that was a big deal.

Funny, I see them every day. There’s a CAT rental place on Lake St in Elmhurst.

I knew this, because there is a CAT rental place on my route to work. I’m pretty sure they’re a rebadge of a Navistar truck.

Just did a bit of googling, and it appears they're not priced too badly. Bet our local Ford dealer has F-series that are stickered higher.

I don’t know about those, but CAT actually makes pretty good hydraulic components on their earth moving machinery. They’re not in the same league as the absolutely glorious systems and components that Komatsu makes, but they’re by far the best of the American equipment.

They’ve been making* trucks for over 5 years now at least
*paying someone else to slap the Cat name on their product
Also, fun fact, when first introduced Cat didn’t have an emissions compliant engine...so there are some “Cat” trucks running around with Cummins engines that were painted Caterpiller yellow

I too, like large blue pumps

I don’t know about longevity on the fluid ends, that wasn’t my area. I do know 99% of the frac pumps we had were powered by CAT 3512Bs.

Yes, I was aware of that........by playing ATS.......and downloading the CAT Truck mod.

First became aware when I saw one on the road a couple years back, I don’t think they’ve been in that game for long. I feel like they may also be rebadge jobs of some other truck but IDK.

IIRC Caterpillar no longer sells on-highway (truck) engines to anyone else.

I did not know that. Interesting.
Also, might be new Lexus grill for 2021. You never know!

Makes sense, if they now have their own line of complete vehicles. I was never really up on the topic but was surprised when a relative bought a pair of older Ford 5 tons at auction and we found matching Cat engines under the hood when we got them home. No idea if they left the factory that way, but damned if they weren’t both pretty much identical so I always kind of assumed as much.

I was kinda mindblown when I first heard of them, but I live in the UK, so I assumed that Americans just assume it as normal, but guess not.

just a rebadge International. Not even a CAT engine

I'm Canadian, but yeah, not usual to the North American market
